Coma Beach returns with Passion/Bliss, the third and final chapter of their Scapegoat Revisited EP triptych, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1995 debut album, The Scapegoat’s Agony. Hailing from Würzburg, Germany, Coma Beach has built a reputation for their raw, aggressive fusion of punk rock and alternative rock, with themes of pain, rage, and isolation at the core of their sound. With Passion/Bliss, they invite listeners into a world of existential turmoil and chaotic energy, proving once again their ability to create music that is both emotionally jarring and sonically compelling. The EP opens with Passion, a track that plunges the listener straight into the protagonist’s inner turmoil. Stripped of all distracting thoughts, he faces his emotional emptiness head-on. The track is a relentless, high-energy barrage of punk-infused aggression, perfectly embodying the frenzied search for meaning within the chaos.

The EP then moves into Bliss, where the protagonist, now having lost his mind entirely, is tormented by visions of an apocalyptic, self-destructive world. The track’s relentless instrumentation mirrors the descent into madness, building tension through its driving guitars and pounding drums. Following these two intense pieces, the EP offers three radio edits from The Scapegoat’s Agony: Astray (Fallen Angel), Nothing Right, and The Final Door. Each track contributes to the overall experience of Passion/Bliss, reinforcing the album’s themes of existential dread and inescapable despair. Despite the darkness of its subject matter, the EP remains gripping and undeniably engaging, with each track delivering raw energy and unfiltered emotion. Musically, Coma Beach has perfected the art of crafting immersive soundscapes. Their instrumentals are aggressive yet melodic, balancing chaos with precision.

The production quality of Passion/Bliss ensures that each element shines—vocals cut through the dense mix, guitars sear through the atmosphere, and the rhythm section provides an unrelenting foundation. The evolution of the EP is palpable, drawing the listener deeper into its bleak yet captivating world. At its core, Passion/Bliss is not just a collection of songs but an experience—one that grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. It’s an EP that demands to be played on repeat, each listen unraveling new layers of meaning. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Coma Beach or discovering them for the first time, Passion/Bliss is a testament to their artistic vision and ability to turn existential dread into something electrifying.
